The Holy Mystery

The Holy Mystery

Two different people living two different lives
Meet one evening and sparks begin to fly
Neither can explain but suddenly there is room

For more than themselves, and love begins to bloom

Swept away by a force beyond what they can see
The courtship begins and their hearts feel free
To love and be loved for the very first time

Hearts beating in rhythm, future plans align

Before they know it, he’s down on one knee
Asking for her hand in front of family
The glasses clink, the celebration flows

Plans bend and curve as anticipation grows

Leading to the day the dream comes true
They look in each other’s eyes and say “I do”
Cheers erupt, witnesses cry tears of joy

As they reflect on the journey of the girl and the boy

No longer two people, how can it be
They are now one—the holy mystery
What happens to one now happens to two

This is the commitment and God is the glue

That will hold them together when trials attack
Hearts will break, but nothing will they lack
Marriage is not just an earthly arrangement

It’s not about the wedding, showers, or engagement

Marriage is ordained by the Lord above
To give us a glimpse of His mercy and love
When two imperfect people come together as one

The contrast is comical but not always fun

They are both sinners in need of grace
Pride must fall, insecurities must be faced
There will be discomfort as they let go of selfish ways

But when they do—they’ll begin the glory days

An adventure so great, full of twists and turns
Lord willing, together they’ll continue to learn
That what God ordained is a picture for all to see

Of how He loves us unconditionally

The vows are sacred, let no one interfere
With this holy mystery that God holds so dear
When marriages flounder, Lord give them help from above
And remind husband and wife how to love with Your love.
